All Lives Matter

By Abigail Levitt

Pain. Blood. Blame.

For nothing.

For no one.

Innocence scattered

Like shards of broken glass

Cutting at us all

No escape from the wind

How can I be touched

By something so far away?

Why does it feel

Like it’s a part of me?

Am I looking for pain

Or am I looking for love?

And why do I always find

A mirror image

Of my life

In you?

(Written on the murder of three Muslims in North Carolina, USA in 2015)
