The Veil

By Tara Menon

A veil floats between us.

Sometimes it covers you

and at other times it hides me.

A thin translucent veil,

light as a breeze.

It dances in the air, teasing us.

Now here, now there,

forcing us to discover

how to love under any circumstance.

It covers us both under its floral canopy.

Then it flies above the jay,

who watches us from his perch

on a maple branch.

The veil disappears to find other couples

as we don’t need its soft touch anymore.
